A Muslim woman from Britain carries her heart not in her chest but in a bag.
Salwa Hussain, 41, suffered a heart attack at home in 2017. She was alone
at home but dared to drive herself 200 meters to her family doctor, from
where she was rushed to hospital.
It was revealed in the hospital that Salwa Hussain’s heart has failed and he
will have to have an artificial heart. Doctors transferred him to another
hospital where he underwent a 6-hour operation. His heart was removed
through an operation and an artificial pumping system was installed
Doctors have installed power plastic chambers on Salwa through which
two pipes come out and are connected to a pump outside. The pump is
powered by a battery-powered electric motor and supplies air to these

chambers. Through this air, the chambers act like a heart and supply blood
to the whole body. The chamber is inside the woman’s chest, while the
pump, electric motor and batteries are in the bag outside, which Salva
always carries with her.
Two tubes protruding from the inside of the bag went through her navel
hole. Transparent plastic pipes reach the inside of the chest and inflate the
two bubbles inside the chest, allowing blood to circulate throughout the
body in the same way that the heart pumps it.
The equipment inside the bag weighs about 7 kg. Salwa Hussain has an
artificial heart made by an American company which cost جس 86,000.
Doctors say Salva will have to carry her heart on her shoulders until she
receives a heart donation.
