New Delhi – A wedding in Bareilly district of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh turned into a ruckus when a drunk groom garlanded his closest friend instead of the bride. After this incident, the 21-year-old bride Radha Devi not only slapped the groom but also called off the wedding and left the venue.
According to NDTV, the 26-year-old groom Ravinder Kumar arrived late for the wedding ceremony with his procession. During the ceremony, the groom’s family demanded more dowry even though the bride’s father had already paid Rs 2.5 lakh before the wedding and another Rs 2 lakh on the wedding day. On the other hand, another position is that Ravinder Kumar wanted to marry someone else
According to the FIR, the groom was drunk and misbehaving with the bride’s family. During the wedding rituals, when it was time to put on the garland, he was sitting with his friends in a drunken state and drinking. In this state, he put the garland around the neck of her close friend instead of the bride. Radha Devi got very angry at this, slapped the groom and left the wedding.
After this incident, a fight started between the two families, and chairs were thrown at each other. The police reached the spot, brought the situation under control and sent the procession back. The police took the groom and his friends into custody and registered a case for disrespecting the bride’s family and disrupting the wedding. A case of dowry demand has also been registered against the groom. Police say that the groom’s friends had bought illegal liquor and made him drink it, so the liquor seller has also been arrested.
