Virat Kohli achieved this feat by catching Naseem Shah off Kuldeep Yadav in the 47th over of the match against Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai on Sunday.

This was Kohli’s 157th catch in ODI cricket, with which he broke former captain Mohammad Azharuddin’s 25-year-old record.

Mohammad Azharuddin took 156 catches in 334 ODIs until his retirement in 2000.

Kohli also caught Khushdil Shah in the last over in the match against Pakistan.

Kohli has now taken 158 catches in 299 matches, making him the fielder with the most catches in ODIs for India.

It should be noted that the world record for the most catches in ODI cricket is held by former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene, who took 218 catches in 448 matches.

The second place in this list is occupied by former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, who took 160 catches in 375 matches, while the third place is occupied by Kohli.
