Actor Hania Aamir has once again highlighted the importance of art transcending political and cultural boundaries. Speaking at a recent event where she was honoured with the Star of Pakistan Award by the UK Parliament, Hania emphasised that creativity and humanity should not be hindered by geopolitical differences.
The award ceremony, hosted by British MP Afzal Khan at the House of Commons’ Jubilee Room, celebrated her contributions to Pakistan’s entertainment industry. “It is an absolute honour to be here, and it means a lot to me,” Hania said on the occasion. “I hope we continue to entertain people through our work and make Pakistan proud.”
Videos of the starlet speaking with press soon began making rounds on social media. In one viral clip, Hania was asked about her growing recognition in India particularly since Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh invited her on stage at a London concert in October.
“You’ve received a lot of appreciation from the world regarding your work. Especially since [that moment with] Diljit Dosanjh, your work really picked up momentum in India, and there’s a lot of positivity surrounding you on social media. How many projects are you currently working on in India?” the interviewer probed, but Hania was quick to correct the record. “There is no such thing,” she clarified, dismissing rumours of a cross-border partnership.
However, the actor acknowledged the positive attention she received after attending Diljit’s concert. “A lot of positivity has come my way, and it should stay like that,” she added.
As Diljit gears up for his return to the big screen with Sardaar Ji 3, social media has been rife with speculation of Hania featuring opposite the Indian singer-actor in the Punjabi horror-comedy. Despite the internet’s insistence, neither Hania nor Diljit has made any such announcement.
However, the Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum star made it clear where she stands on art and borders. “Craft is craft, humanity is humanity. Whatever differences there are, whether they be political or otherwise, should not impede humanity.”
Praises pour in
Hania’s showbiz colleagues did not hold back on praise as she received the prestigious award. Actor Iqra Aziz reposted Hania receiving the award on her Instagram story, writing, “Mashallah. You’re a star, making all of us proud.”
Actor Hira Khan penned a sweet note on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “They say there are no stars anymore; they probably haven’t met Hania Aamir.” She humourously added, “Get some rest, my love. Global domination is hard.”
Fans flocked to the comment’s section on social media platforms to shower their love upon the star. One commented, “Hania is such a talented girl. A whole package. A true star in the real sense,” while another quipped, “Hania is a superstar, giving superhits after superhits. She is not only a good actor but she also knows how to pull in an audience for her dramas. That’s why she is called a star, otherwise there are many good artists. But not everyone is a star.”
‘Face of Gen Z’
In December, as she capped her 2024, Hania appeared for an exclusive interview with CNN. “I’m just so grateful for all the love I have received, to be honest,” the star enthused.
One of Pakistan’s most followed celebrities on Instagram, Hania took 2024 by storm with her starring role as Sharjeena in the hit drama Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum. Looking ahead, one of her upcoming projects includes a role in Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo, Pakistan’s first-ever Netflix show featuring an ensemble cast including Sanam Saeed, Fawad Khan, and Mahira Khan. Hania remained tight-lipped about the details but did share her joy at being involved in the venture.
“All I can say is that I’m really excited about it!” she shared. “I can’t say much about it, but it’s been an absolute honour to be working with people who’ve been working for over a decade who are so much more experienced and just lovely to work with!”
When asked how she feels about being the “face of Gen Z” in Pakistan, Hania brushed it off by reminding viewers that she doesn’t “take a lot of pressure.”
“I just try and be myself and whatever comes my way I try to do it with as much honesty as I can,” she insisted.
