The iconic Top Gun star Val Kilmer has been honoured by his Hollywood friends and admirers following his death at the age of 65.
After his daughter Mercedes Kilmer confirmed the news to The New York Times, the Batman Forever actor’s admirers have been pouring their heartfelt tributes on several social media platforms.
James Brolin’s son Josh Brolin, who made his acting debut in the cult classic The Goonies (1985), took to Instagram to remember the late actor.
“See ya, pal. I’m going to miss you. You were a smart, challenging, brave, uber-creative firecracker. There’s not a lot left of those,” he wrote alongside a photo of them smiling brightly with their arms around each other.
“I hope to see you up there in the heavens when I eventually get there. Until then, amazing memories, lovely thoughts,” he added before ending the post with a row of broken hearts and a diamond emoji.
Filmmaker Michael Mann, who directed Kilmer in the 1995 action film Heat, mourned the actor’s passing.
“After so many years of Val battling disease and maintaining his spirit, this is tremendously sad news,” he told The Hollywood Reporter, adding that he “always marvelled at the range, the brilliant variability within the powerful current of Val’s possessing and expressing character.”
Visual effects studio Industrial Light & Magic, which worked on the 1988 film Willow, expressed their sorrow over the actor’s death on Threads.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our friend and colleague, Val Kilmer,” they wrote alongside a photo of Kilmer as the film’s character Madmartigan. “From his memorable roles as Madmartigan, Iceman, Doc Holliday, and Jim Morrison, Val cemented himself as one of the greats. He will be deeply missed and our thoughts are with his family at this time.”
In addition, Francis Ford Coppola, American Author Don Winslow, Actor Josh Gad, and Stranger Things star Matthew Modine shared their tributes over social media.
Notably, the official Top Gun movie account on X (formerly Twitter) honoured Kilmer, with fans flooding the comment section with their tributes.
Notably, Tom Cruise, who shared a special bond with Kilmer from working together on Top Gun, has yet to comment on the news of his passing, with no posts appearing on his social media accounts for the time being.
