KARACHI:

Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced that it has resumed hydrocarbon production at the Chak 2-2 well, a joint venture in the Sinjhoro block of Sindh.

The revival of production from the Chak 2-2 well marks a significant achievement for the state-owned oil and gas exploration firm. It also reflects the company’s commitment to enhancing Pakistan’s hydrocarbon output and meeting the country’s energy needs in the mission to contribute to national energy security.

Following sidetracking and recompletion in the Basal Sand Formation, post-completion testing yielded encouraging results. Now, the well is producing 115 barrels of oil per day, seven million cubic feet of gas per day, and 21 metric tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) per day, OGDCL stated in a notification sent to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Thursday. The well has been successfully integrated with the Sinjhoro gas processing plant, and processed gas is being injected into the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) network.

OGDCL operates with a 62.50% share in the Sinjhoro block while Government Holdings (Private) Limited holds a 22.50% share, and Orient Petroleum has a 15% stake.

This milestone is part of OGDCL’s broader exploration and production strategy aimed at increasing domestic output and reducing reliance on imported energy resources. The company is committed to the efficient and sustainable exploration and production of natural resources to meet the country’s energy needs.
